The Picacho Lodge is located in one of the most southern zones of Chile in the midst of the Andes Mountains on the banks of the Picacho River. The valley formed by this river is considered to be a unique place in Chile with the highest biodiversity of nature in Patagonia. This can be seen in it natural landscapes and geographic richness, which remain intact until the present as a result of it's isolation due to the difficult and restricted areas.
The unequaled fishing conditions found here is directly a result of the untouched and uninhabited nature of the valley. Therefore, it is possible to find healthy populations of wild rainbow and brown trout in various water systems of this unique area. The different rivers, lakes, lagoons, and streams enable wading from shore as well as fishing from uniquely designed Cataraft boats.
Each new day the fishing experience at Picacho Lodge brings forth a new adventure. This is not only because the main means of transportation on the river are Cataraft boats with jet outboard motors, but because of the variety of fishing locations that may be visited using the lodge as a central point.
The fishing opportunities at Picacho are varied as you will fish rivers, lakes and lagoons. There are 9 rivers, each very different from the next in both size, and structure. Some are meandering rivers with many deep pools within them, others are freestone with rapids and pocket water and there are even slow moving streams and spring creeks presenting unique technical challenges.
No matter the river or the conditions, sight fishing and throwing dry flies is first choice! However, when conditions are unfavorable, our guides will always seek other methods for success using streamers, nymphs, and even salmon eggs.
Another fly fishing option are the lakes and lagoons. This can provide for some spectacular fly fishing for huge rainbows and browns. Chernobyl ants, dragonflies, and even mouse patterns, constitute the ideal diet of the brown and rainbow trout that inhabit the reeds. The 8 lakes and lagoons represent a wide range of natural features: lush rushes and reeds, rock formations, trunks and shallow waters define these bodies of water. The lakes and lagoons provide outstanding fly fishing experiences in adverse climatic conditions being an excellent alternative for those days when rivers do not offer great fishing.
Picacho Lodge and it's surrounding fishery is a very special location and a destination you will not want to miss!
